Today I want to talk about how you can get what you want out of life and business.
As you may or may not know, the six-figure Academy is all about helping you create a lifestyle that you designate as your own “life by design” is more than just about making money.
Money foundation and money mastery is just the first step, and leveraging that to creating a lifestyle is really what we’re all about.
Today’s video is kind of special.
The inspiration of today’s video actually happened just this earlier before this video was made when I went next door to the cafe to grab a cup of coffee. As I was standing in line, I was talking to the cashier and became more difficult for me to finish my sentence because I kept getting this prick on the back of my back and I thought maybe it’s the tag of my shirt, but then it got more and more intense to the point where I realized I was getting stung.
I told the cashier, “You know what give me a moment. You can go ahead start my order, I’ll be right back.”
I ran to the back of the cafe took off my shirt and there nestled into my shirt was a yellow jacket. Now for those of you don’t know what a yellow jacket is, unlike a honeybee that stings once and then it dies, yellow jacket is a kind of a wasp that can keep stinging.
So there it was sitting in my back and it took me awhile to shake it off, took the yellow jacket out, put my shirt back on, came back to the cashier and there it was: my coffee and my little gluten free loaf waiting for me.
Now as I was walking back to my office with my coffee and loaf, it hit me.
I have to thank the yellow jacket now for this reminder because the reminder was this:
Actually I really didn’t want the coffee today.
But for some inexplicable reason I was on autopilot.
That I needed this coffee.
That I should have this coffee.
Or I ought to have this coffee because it’s that time of the day when I needed to crank out some videos and get things done and I really didn’t want it.
So that reminded me of this one cool lesson that I was taught years ago, which is about how you then
structure your life to getting what it is that you want. The important thing here is that it’s the lifestyle that you want, as opposed to the lifestyle that you need, to create for your own happiness.
And that’s by questioning the phrase “I need” “I ought” “I should” “I have to” “I better”
We often start our self talk with those phrases:
“Oh I need to get this done” or “I should do this” “I shouldn’t be doing that”
And the cool little trick that I was taught years ago was to shift those words to test to see if that’s something that really is in the highest and greatest good of your life or your business, and here’s how you do that:
- Take away the should, the need, the ought, the I have to
- Replace it with “I want”
- Test with yourself and calibrate on your responses: Does that feel true?
In other words if I said “oh I need to get this done” and then I flip around and replace the “need” with “want” then say “I want to get this done”, do I really want to get this done?
Some of you may say “Well then you’ll never want to get anything done” and you know that’s not true.
I test this in my business almost every day, like “I need to get this webinar finished”
Do I want to get this done?
Actually I do, so it’s more of a want
So little by little by calibrating and testing the truth of the statement that you asked, you’re going to slowly cultivate a lifestyle that’s more about a life that you want a business that you want versus something that you need, should, or have to do.
So hopefully you got a little nugget out there and hopefully you have a better a greater appreciation for the yellow little yellow jacket (which I did not kill by the way, I let go and it flew away)
