Money Stories from Guest Sarah Pruett Soufl

I’m not quite sure what Money story I have, although I’d be interested to break it down. My father went back to medical school around the age of 40 (I was in kindergarten), and I grew up hearing “we can’t afford it” a lot. When I got into middle school he started to make money and we could afford things so I had better clothes and more than one pair of shoes. My parents got me a car to drive in high school, they paid for my education. I’m pretty privileged in that way (no debt).

My story is also that I really care about the environment and consider my choices carefully when buying food, clothes, and any consumer product. How do you live with an abundance mindset with money (not actual needs like food shelter acceptance love etc) knowing there are natural limits to consumption on earth? That our economy runs on the energy from an ancient sun? This is not my area of expertise but it’s a value I bring into my counseling when appropriate. Buying locally, organic, shifting from consumption to production, responsible harvesting, plant based diets, etc.

But basically, I haven’t spent much time reflecting about money story. I guess I trust myself to make good use of my talents to help people and make a living.
