In honor of this past Halloween that we celebrated here in the United States, today’s video is about the masks we wear that keeps us challenged or stuck in our life, in our business and our behaviors.
See during Halloween, we go to parties with masks and costumes on, pretending to be something different, something other than you.
The cool thing about Halloween is that when you’re done you don’t have to keep that mask on forever. You can take the costume off and just go back to being you.
Now, the question here is who is that person you refer to as “being you”?
Because if you think about it, our entire lives we put together different types of costumes different types of macks, depending on the circumstances, the time of our lives, the situations that we encountered.
For example when we were first born there were no masks at all. There was no costume we were just who we are and that actually is the purest form of being. Then as we got older and go to kindergarten, we put on a kindergarten mask and then we got to grade school, we had to adjust and fit in there too so we put on a grade-school mack. In high school we put on our teenage mask. This goes on to college, when you first enter the workforce, when you first start a family, and so on and so forth.
The only problem with this is that as we’re growing up most of us have never been taught to take off those masks that don’t apply anymore. In fact, what ends up happening is we end up layering on all these different layers of costumes and masks in our lives.
Now the problem with that is if there’s any kind of trauma or any kind of limiting belief systems that were
acquired during the previous mask stage, we retain it and we lock it in and keep it in with the next mask and the next mask after that.
If you can imagine putting on these layers of masks on top of your face you’re gonna have to see through a lot of different layers to see what’s going on beyond the last mask.
What happens is this is as we get older we become challenged because we get we we start losing
getting out of touch with our core being or what we were born to be.
We have more knowledge but then we are fraught with negative emotions, negative belief systems or limiting belief systems, and behaviors that we may not may not necessary serve us anymore.
How does this apply to entrepreneurship?
It shows up every single day when we want need to make critical decisions to help our business grow to make more sales, and we all these layers keep can potentially keep you from making that decision.
Now what can we do about it?
More often than not, people say “Well, if all these layers don’t serve me anymore, let’s just get rid of it all somehow”. However, one of the best ways to do it is to peel off layer by layer by simply asking the question if I wasn’t who I am today, if I’m not wearing the mask, who would I be, what would I do, and what would I have?
Peel off one layer at a time by identifying the limiting belief that keeps it there and continue to follow this process layer by layer by layer until you eventually get to the core center of who you are.
So here’s my challenge to you:
- Take an inventory of all the different masks and all the different costumes you put on your life.
And be completely honest with yourself! - Find out what type of beliefs that are in place. What type of emotions were accumulated during that time that you had that mask on?
- Take your inventory list and put it in chronological order so that as you remove the layers you’re moving in the toward the core.
Don’t worry you’ll never lose the knowledge you gain the positive knowledge and the positive behaviors and experiences you gain from each layer.
Our goal is to get rid of the non-serving behaviour and non serving belief systems that are actually holding you back in your business.
So what are you waiting for?
Let’s start removing the mask that no longer serve us, those costumes that have been sitting there forever, blocking our view of who we are today. Let’s make sure we are a reflection of our core be so that you can truly help your business grow!
