How to Supercharge Productivity

Some of you may know, I play beach volleyball. It’s actually one of my go-to sports, and I still remember one of the first times getting out to the beach, I was told “Keep in mind, quick feet, quick steps.”

What that means is how how I was able to get from point A to point B on the court playing indoor volleyball is a little bit different than how I move on the beach.

For those of you who ever ran in sand before, you’ll notice that when you dig deep and try to do a long stride, you actually end up going deeper in the sand and going slower and then you become more committed to a specific direction without an ability to change on the fly.

So, when I started doing quick steps and quick feet on the beach, that’s when my speed increased and my ability to change direction right away got better which is really important when there’s only two people on the court.

So, how does that then apply to entrepreneurship?

When I first started as an entrepreneur, I was always looking to do the big strides to get the big gains, the big wins as soon as possible. What that results in is that I put in all my effort and all my time into these big strides, and like my long strides in the sand, it ends up slowing me down because I wasn’t able to adapt and adjust and be as resilient as possible in the changing nature of business.

So, here’s your tip for this video so you can supercharge your productivity and flexibility:

  1. Take a look at some tasks that have been a bit of a grind, or a project that has taken a long time to complete.
  2. Take the time to really break it down to little baby steps.
  3. Every single day task yourself to take only one, two, or three baby steps at a time.

Baby steps allow the flexibility like you would on a beach so you can move faster, move quicker, and it gives you small wins that help you celebrate and keep the energy moving forward in your business.

So, what are you waiting for? Take that task, take that project, break it down to baby steps, and start assigning yourself one to three baby steps a day. That’s it. No more than that.
